Welcome to Lehigh Acres, an ever changing and diverse community of approximately 75,000 residents who have exchanged their more structured lifestyles in other states, other areas in Florida and around the globe for the enviable quality of life here.
Originally planned and developed by Lehigh Corporation, this 60,000-acre community offers living to suit most any lifestyle, including singlefamily homes, condominiums, apartments, townhouses and golf course villas. The mix of retirees and young families offers a wellbalanced community of friends and neighbors. Just 12 miles east of Ft. Myers and two-thirds of the way down the Florida peninsula; Lehigh Acres offers ponds, lakes and canals. The Gulf of Mexico is just 30 miles west, which means less than an hour to some of Florida's finest beaches at Bonita Beach, Ft. Myers Beach, Captiva and Sanibel Islands. The Caloosahatchee River stretches north and east to Lake Okeechobee, from which boat enthusiasts enjoy a direct channel west to the Gulf of Mexico and east to the Atlantic Ocean and north to mid-state Florida.
Lehigh Acres is situated on the highest ground in Lee County, ranging from 27 to 30 feet above sea level. Within the community, residents enjoy year round freshwater fishing, golf at five championship courses, biking, tennis, walking and numerous activities at the various clubs and organizations. Travel to and from Lehigh Acres is easily accomplished on Lee Boulevard and Gunnery Road.
A semitropical climate may be Lehigh Acres' greatest asset. Sunny days are the rule, and temperature extremes rarely last very long. The average annual temperature is 74 degrees Fahrenheit, with summer highs in the low 90's and the winter lows in the high 40's. Sunshine warms the days from December through March. Summer showers cool the air, keep the landscape a lush green, and nourish an amazing variety of blooming plants and shrubs.
Many of the early settlers brought their best traditions with them and established new ones. They formed local chapters of national organizations, created clubs and civic groups, and built a strong sense of community spirit. In addition to a state of the art 88 bed fully accredited hospital, superior rated congregate living and nursing centers, and five modern schools, Lehigh Acres offers expanding shopping facilities, specialty shops, a number of banking institutions and top supermarkets so there's really no need to shop anywhere else. Many vacationers who explore Lehigh Acres return to settle here. The lifestyle is casual and a welcome change from the hustle and bustle of larger urban centers.

            Lehigh Acres tambien cuenta con un hospital totalmente acreditado de 88 camas.  Cinco escuelas modernas, una inficidad de centros comercialkes que incluyen bancos, supermercados, ect. Esto le permite no tener que viajar para ir de compras.

            Muchas personas que han sido visitants de Lehigh Acres an regresado a vivir en esta comunidad y an hecho de Lehigh Acres su hogar.

Lehigh Acres heisst Sie willkommen!

Lehigh Acres breitet sich über eine Fläche von fast 250 km² aus. Nur 2,8 km² davon sind Wasser. Es ist das frühere Zuhause von Lee Rattner, der von Chicago hierher kam und sich auf seiner Lucky Lee Ranch wohlgefühlt hat. Lehigh Acres ist übrigens die erste Gemeinde, die in Florida nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg für Pensionierte geschaffen wurde.

Wir befinden uns rund 27 km vom Golf von Mexiko entfernt und mit elf Metern über Meeresspiegel auf dem höchstgelegenen Punkt des Lee County.

Lehigh Acres ist eine Town aber nicht eine City. Im englischen Sprachgebrauch kennen wir für das Wort Stadt sowohl den Begriff „city“ als auch „town“. Die Ernennung einer Ortschaft zur Stadt ist hier eine politische Veränderung und besagt nichts über Einwohnerzahl. Lehigh Acres ist „unincorporated“; der Ort hat keine eigene Regierung, sondern ist dem Lee County und seinen Commissioners unterstellt. Dennoch können sich Gruppen bilden, die sich mit einer Thematik - wie zum Beispiel der Ortsentwicklung - befassen und dem County Vorschläge unterbreiten.

Lehigh Acres wächst täglich. Noch vor wenigen Jahren hat man von 38'000 Einwohnern gesprochen hatte, heute taucht die Zahl 75’000 auf. Europäer, die nicht übers ganze Jahr hier leben und „Snow Birds" (Winterbesucher aus dem Norden der USA) werden mit 15% eingeschätzt. Parallel zu dieser Entwicklung ist auch das Durchschnittsalter von 54 Jahren auf 37 Jahre gesunken. Wir sehen junge Familien mit Kindern zuziehen, und Lehigh bekommt immer wieder neue Schulen.

Mit diesen Entwicklungen sind Immobilien stets ein wesentlicher Faktor, auch wenn sich der Markt in den letzten Monaten beruhigt hat. Laufend werden neue Wohngebiete erschlossen und Lehigh Acres empfängt uns am Lee Boulevard mit einem ganz neuen Gesicht: Der Ankommende wird nicht nur von unzähligen Modellhäusern beidseits der Strasse, sondern auch von modernen, attraktiven Geschäftsbauten und Shoppingzentren empfangen. Das bekannte Golfresort mit dem Nord Course und Mirror Lakes Golfplatz heisst nun Greentree Resort. Trotz angestiegener Lebenskosten ist das Leben in dieser Gegend immer noch erschwinglich.

Die Zahl der deutschsprachiger Europäer an diesem Ort ist nicht zu unterschätzen. Manche haben sich in den letzten Jahren zwar dazu entschlossen, ihr Eigentum zu verkaufen: oft kommen sie nun als Mieter hierher zurück. Auch in der Gastronomie hat es Wechsel gegeben, aber wir haben noch immer drei Restaurants ("Bistro Munich","Black Lagoon" und "Mozart") sowie das europäische Delikatessengeschäft "European Butcher and Deli", die unter deutschsprachiger Leitung laufen.

Lehigh Acres bietet für seine Einwohner ein abgerundetes Kaufangebot. Durch die Anwesenheit von Spezialärzten ist für eine vorzügliche medizinische Betreuung gesorgt. Zudem haben wir ein Krankenhaus im Ort. Von bescheidenen Wohnungen bis zu luxuriösen Häusern am Golfplatz oder auf grossen Grundstücken ist alles vorhanden. Nicht nur zahlreiche Einrichtungen bieten ideale Voraussetzungen für absolute Entspannung; da sind auch viele Möglichkeiten für eine Betätigung im Freien: zum Wandern, Joggen, Fahrradfahren, Tennispielen oder auf einem der fünf beliebten Championship Golfplätze eine Runde Golf spielen.

In einer Zeitspanne von nur 15 Minuten kann man am beliebten Caloosahatchee River oder in 50 Fahrminuten am silbern leuchtenden Sandstrand. Beiderorts finden Sie Marina's für Ihr Boot. Ebenfalls in zumutbarer Fahrdistanz findet man einige der gut eingerichteten, öffentlichen Parks.

Lehigh Acres ist ein Platz für Jung und Alt und beherbergt verschiedene lokale Clubs und einige Service Clubs (Rotary, Kiwanis und Lions), wo europäische Gäste immer herzlich willkommen sind.
